Building Bridges Beyond History: A New Chapter in Pakistan–Türkiye Relations
July 2026 will remain a significant chapter in my journey—not merely because of the meetings, discussions, and media engagements, but because it provided an opportunity to connect with the individuals actively shaping the future of Pakistan–Türkiye relations.
During my recent visit to Istanbul, I had the privilege of being present alongside distinguished leaders, policymakers, and diplomats from both nations who share a common vision: transforming a historic bond of friendship into a dynamic and sustainable strategic economic partnership.
The relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye has always been rooted in mutual respect, cultural connection, and shared values. However, the future of this partnership lies in expanding beyond traditional diplomacy and focusing on economic collaboration, investment, innovation, and institutional cooperation.
Meeting the Visionaries Shaping the Future
The presence of prominent leaders from both countries reflected the importance and growing momentum behind Pakistan–Türkiye cooperation.
Among the distinguished personalities were:
- Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif
- Vice President of Türkiye Cevdet Yılmaz
- Minister of Trade of Türkiye Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat
- Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister of Pakistan Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar
- Governor of Istanbul Davut Gül
- Federal Minister for Petroleum of Pakistan Ali Pervaiz Malik
- Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye Alparslan Bayraktar
- Federal Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja
- Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar
- Ambassador of Pakistan to Türkiye Dr. Yousaf Junaid
These leaders represent more than government positions; they represent the vision, commitment, and determination required to build a stronger future for both nations.
They are among the architects of a new era – an era where Pakistan and Türkiye collaborate across trade, technology, energy, infrastructure, investment, and economic development.
From Strategic Friendship to Economic Partnership
As the Founder & President of the Pakistan–Türkiye Investment & Development Council (PTIDC), I have dedicated my efforts toward strengthening economic relations between Pakistan and Türkiye.
For years, the focus has been clear: creating opportunities where businesses, investors, institutions, and entrepreneurs from both countries can work together and benefit from each other’s strengths.
Witnessing this shared vision being discussed at the highest levels of leadership reaffirmed my belief that the future of Pakistan–Türkiye relations will not only be defined by diplomatic ties but by practical economic cooperation.
The next phase of this relationship must focus on creating opportunities for:
- Greater private-sector participation
- Increased bilateral investment
- Stronger trade partnerships
- Energy and infrastructure collaboration
- Technology exchange and innovation
- Sustainable economic diplomacy
- Long-term institutional partnerships
A Shared Vision for Economic Growth
The commitment of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to enhance bilateral trade between Pakistan and Türkiye—from US$5 billion to US$10 billion—represents an ambitious yet achievable milestone.
Reaching this goal requires collective effort from governments, businesses, investors, and organizations working together with a shared purpose.
Economic diplomacy has the power to transform relationships between nations. It creates opportunities not only for governments but also for entrepreneurs, industries, and future generations.
Pakistan and Türkiye possess tremendous potential in sectors such as:
- Manufacturing and industrial development
- Defense and technology cooperation
- Renewable energy and infrastructure
- Tourism and hospitality
- Financial services and investment
- Digital transformation
By combining Türkiye’s industrial expertise with Pakistan’s emerging market potential, both nations can create a partnership built on shared prosperity.
Beyond Photographs: A Responsibility for the Future
Looking back at these moments, I do not view them simply as photographs or formal meetings. I see them as reminders of responsibility.
A responsibility to continue building bridges between investors, institutions, and nations.
A responsibility to create platforms where economic opportunities can flourish.
And a responsibility to ensure that the friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye is remembered not only for its history, but for the prosperity it creates for future generations.
The journey ahead is filled with possibilities. With vision, commitment, and collaboration, Pakistan and Türkiye can enter a new era-one defined by economic growth, innovation, and lasting partnership.
