PTV Interview: Advancing Pakistan-Türkiye Trade, Investment & Economic Diplomacy

In an increasingly interconnected global economy, the relationship between nations is no longer defined solely by diplomacy. It is increasingly shaped by trade, investment, technology, entrepreneurship, and long-term economic partnerships.

I was honoured to speak with Pakistan Television (PTV) during the Pakistan-Türkiye Business Conference 2026 in Istanbul—an important platform that brought together senior government officials, business leaders, investors, and policymakers from Pakistan and Türkiye.

The conference reflected the growing momentum behind the economic relationship between our two countries and the shared ambition to transform our historic friendship into a stronger and more productive economic partnership.

A Gathering of Leadership and Economic Vision

The conference brought together distinguished leaders, including Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Vice President of Türkiye Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, and other senior government officials and business leaders.

Their presence demonstrated the importance being placed on strengthening Pakistan-Türkiye economic relations.

For me, the conference was particularly meaningful because it brought together many of the stakeholders who can play a decisive role in turning bilateral economic ambitions into tangible outcomes.

A Conversation on the Future of Pakistan-Türkiye Economic Relations

During my interview with PTV, I shared my perspective on the future of PakistanTürkiye trade and investment, the importance of economic diplomacy, and the sectors that have the potential to drive bilateral economic growth in the coming years.

Our discussion focused on several key areas:

  • Expanding trade and investment opportunities between Pakistan and Türkiye
  • Using economic diplomacy as a catalyst for sustainable growth
  • Promoting industrial cooperation and joint ventures
  • Exploring opportunities in infrastructure and real estate
  • Strengthening cooperation in energy and technology
  • Building stronger institutional and private-sector partnerships
  • Supporting the shared vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to significantly increase bilateral trade

These areas represent more than individual economic opportunities. Together, they form the foundation of a broader economic relationship capable of generating employment, attracting investment, encouraging innovation, and creating long-term value for both countries.

From Historic Friendship to Economic Partnership

Pakistan and Türkiye share a relationship built on decades of friendship, mutual respect, cultural connections, and diplomatic cooperation.

But every generation has a responsibility to take that relationship forward.

The next chapter of Pakistan–Türkiye relations must increasingly be defined by commerce, investment, innovation, technology, and strategic economic cooperation.

Political goodwill creates the foundation.

Economic cooperation builds upon it.

And sustainable partnerships turn that cooperation into lasting results.

There is significant potential for businesses and investors from both countries to work together across multiple sectors. The challenge is to create the institutional frameworks, connections, and confidence required to transform this potential into actual investment and trade.

The Role of Economic Diplomacy

Economic diplomacy has become one of the most important tools available to countries seeking sustainable growth in a competitive global environment.

It is about more than negotiating trade agreements.

It is about connecting investors with opportunities.

It is about helping businesses enter new markets.

It is about encouraging joint ventures and technology transfer.

It is about creating relationships between institutions.

And ultimately, it is about building economic bridges that can withstand political and global changes.

As Founder & President of the Pakistan-Türkiye Investment & Development Council (PTIDC), I remain committed to contributing to this process and strengthening the economic bridge between Pakistan and Türkiye.

My objective is to help create platforms where businesses, investors, institutions, and policymakers can connect and explore meaningful opportunities.

Building the Future Through Action

The future of Pakistan–Türkiye relations will not be written only through diplomatic statements or official meetings.

It will be built through partnerships.

It will be built through investment.

It will be built through joint ventures, technology, trade, and entrepreneurship.

And most importantly, it will be built through meaningful action.

The Pakistan–Türkiye relationship has already given us a strong foundation.

Now, our responsibility is to build upon it.

The opportunities are significant, but realizing them will require long-term vision, private-sector participation, institutional cooperation, and a willingness to think beyond short-term objectives.

The future belongs to those who transform relationships into opportunities and opportunities into sustainable economic progress.

For Pakistan and Türkiye, that future is one I believe we can build together.
