Pakistan Türkiye Economic Diplomacy: Advancing the $5 Billion Trade Vision

Pakistan and Türkiye share a relationship that extends far beyond conventional diplomatic ties. Built on history, mutual respect, strategic trust and a deep sense of brotherhood, the relationship between the two nations has endured across generations.

Today, that historic friendship presents an opportunity to build something even stronger: a partnership driven by trade, investment, innovation and shared economic prosperity.

Turning Historic Friendship into Economic Opportunity

During a recent visit to Istanbul, I had the privilege of participating in a high-level meeting with the Deputy Governor of Istanbul, the Consul General of Pakistan in Istanbul, an Executive Member of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, and prominent members of the Pakistani business community.

The discussions focused on strengthening Pakistan–Türkiye trade and investment, expanding private-sector cooperation and creating practical pathways to transform the longstanding friendship between our countries into measurable economic opportunities.

The leadership of Pakistan and Türkiye has established an ambitious vision of increasing bilateral trade to $5 billion.

Achieving this target will require more than government-to-government agreements. It will demand meaningful engagement between chambers of commerce, investors, exporters, entrepreneurs, private enterprises and public institutions.

Economic diplomacy must move beyond dialogue and create tangible opportunities for businesses and communities in both countries.

Building Stronger Trade and Investment Connections

Pakistan and Türkiye have significant potential for cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

Key opportunities include:

  • Joint ventures and industrial partnerships that combine expertise, capital and market access.
  • Greater market access for Pakistani and Turkish exporters.
  • Collaboration in manufacturing, construction, technology, defence and energy.
  • Investment in agriculture, tourism, logistics and infrastructure.
  • Stronger institutional connections between chambers of commerce and private enterprises.
  • Easier pathways for investors, entrepreneurs and skilled professionals to explore opportunities in both markets.

These areas can serve as the foundation for a more integrated economic relationship, allowing companies from both countries to access new markets while creating employment and encouraging innovation.

The Role of the Private Sector

Government support can create the framework for economic cooperation, but the private sector must ultimately drive its implementation.

Businesses need reliable networks, market intelligence, investment opportunities, institutional support and trusted partners. Connecting Pakistani and Turkish business communities can therefore play a critical role in turning bilateral agreements into actual projects, investments and commercial relationships.

The $5 billion vision should not simply be viewed as a trade statistic. It should represent factories established, products exported, businesses expanded, investments created and jobs generated.

This is where economic diplomacy can have its greatest impact.

A Broader Platform for Regional Cooperation

The evolving strategic environment also presents opportunities for broader regional cooperation.

The spirit of cooperation represented by the Mecca Pact, connecting Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia through shared interests and strategic coordination, can contribute to a wider platform for economic security, investment and regional prosperity.

Greater coordination among these economies could open new avenues for trade, infrastructure development, investment and private-sector partnerships across the region.

Strategic cooperation becomes truly meaningful when it translates into economic outcomes that benefit ordinary people and future generations.

From Diplomatic Goodwill to Measurable Progress

As Founder & President of the Pakistan–Türkiye Investment & Development Council (PTIDC), President of the Pakistan Türkiye Cultural Forum, and Founder & CEO of Fortune Group Global, I remain committed to building bridges between institutions, governments, chambers of commerce and business communities.

The objective is clear: to help create the relationships and institutional structures necessary to convert diplomatic goodwill into measurable economic progress.

Pakistan and Türkiye already possess one of the most valuable foundations for international cooperation: trust.

The next step is to build upon that trust through stronger commercial structures, investment corridors, industrial partnerships and institutional connections.

The Road Ahead

The $5 billion bilateral trade vision is ambitious, but it is achievable when governments, institutions and businesses work together with a shared long-term strategy.

The opportunity lies not only in increasing the value of trade between Pakistan and Türkiye, but in creating a deeper economic ecosystem where businesses invest in one another, industries collaborate, entrepreneurs access new markets and people benefit from new opportunities.

Our relationship has already demonstrated the strength of brotherhood.

Now, we must give that brotherhood an economic dimension capable of creating lasting prosperity.

Brotherhood is our foundation. Economic diplomacy is the bridge. Shared prosperity must be our destination.
