On 18 June 2022, I had the privilege of joining Beyaz TV and Semra Güzel for a live television program to discuss several subjects that have shaped my professional journey and continue to influence my perspective on Türkiye’s position in the global investment landscape.
The conversation covered my personal achievements, the evolving Turkish economy, the future of Türkiye’s property market, and the growing impact of changes to Turkish citizenship and passport policies on international investors.
Understanding Türkiye Beyond the Headlines
Türkiye has consistently attracted international attention because of its unique geographical position, dynamic economy, and connection between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
For investors, however, understanding Türkiye requires looking beyond short term market movements. Economic cycles, currency conditions, inflation, infrastructure development, demographic trends, and government policies all play an important role in determining where long term opportunities emerge.
Our discussion explored these factors and considered how international investors could evaluate Türkiye not simply as a destination, but as part of a broader global investment strategy.
The Future of Türkiye’s Property Market
Real estate has remained one of the most important areas of interest for international investors in Türkiye.
The strength of the market was particularly visible in 2022. In June alone, Türkiye recorded 150,509 residential property sales, an 11.7 percent increase compared with the same month a year earlier. Foreign buyers accounted for 8,630 transactions, representing an 81.8 percent year on year increase. Istanbul remained the leading market, with 27,998 residential sales during the month.
These figures reflected a broader transformation in Türkiye’s property market, where international buyers increasingly considered real estate for diversification, lifestyle, residency, and citizenship related objectives.
For investors, the important question has never been simply whether property prices are rising. The real question is where the sustainable opportunities are, what risks exist, and how an asset fits into a wider wealth strategy.
Citizenship, Mobility and International Investors
Another important subject of our discussion was Türkiye’s citizenship by investment framework and its growing relevance to international investors.
For many high net worth individuals, investment decisions today are no longer limited to financial returns. Global mobility, family security, international business access, and diversification across jurisdictions have become increasingly important considerations.
Türkiye’s combination of real estate opportunities, strategic geography, international connectivity, and access to a major regional economy has therefore made it an important consideration for investors seeking both assets and mobility.
Sharing the Investment Perspective
Being invited to a live television platform was more than an opportunity to discuss business. It was an opportunity to share a perspective developed through years of working with international investors and observing the evolution of Türkiye’s investment environment.
